Sorry I didn't get to post the answer to this last night... the day didn't quite go as planned and I was late getting back here.
So, we had lots of interesting answers yesterday... and quite a few that were close... but none that were close enough to win a prize, so I'm awarding myself the spoils on this occasion.

What was I?
Well I wasn't ribbons, aerial roots, dead leaves, saffron, old boot laces or "Dried leatherong."

I was something most of you will have seen every time you go to the shops, whether at the supermarket or the greengrocer....
Had you known your onions, you'd have spotted I was the dried up root structure of an Allium Cepa... or garden onion.
*Usky claps his hands, laughs and skips*
Ho, what a surprise... I thought you'd have spotted this one for sure.
What a clever old Usky!
See you all on Saturday teaser fans for a brand new Little Something for the Weekend!

Ah! Onion ROOTS! I discarded the idea of onions because it didn't look like dried-out onion tops.....

Nice one - had me really gnashing my beard.
