Well it seems like old Usky has you folks bemused with this week's teaser... to be fair it is another stinker so I'm not too surprised.

What am I?

Happy guessing one and all.

Well I'm in a bit of a quandary... we do have a clear winner to this week's teaser, but in truth we also have several contestants who were, at least in part, technically correct... oh dear... life can be so difficult at times.

So, you were asked to identify this:

A spore? A fungus? My armpit? Mould on a tree? Barnacles? Lichen extremely close up?

Lichen it is... close up.

Once again happy28 is spot on with her guess and this week so is lizdavies, but here's the thing... Lichen is part fungus...

Unlike trees, grasses and flowers, a lichen is not a single plant. Instead, it consists of two partners that live together symbiotically - with both of them benefiting from the alliance. One partner is a fungus. The other is a green alga or cyanobacterium, often called a blue-green alga. (from the Natural History Museum)

I guess it's time I put you good people out of your misery... and crow just a little over the second Welsh victory of the weekend.

I was amused to see the guesses arrive; the object of this week's quiz wasn't a bar of soap or a washing up bowl. Nor was it a steam iron or was washing, spinning, drying thing.
