As a lifelong veggie, I remember the days when being such was unfashionable. If you went into the average restaurant, cauliflower cheese or omelette were the only grudgingly offered options, but were always served deliberately late and badly cooked as an act of chef's revenge on all non-meat-eaters.

Pro Oh yes I remember those days too... and the the sudden appearance of the nut-roast!
I'm a long way from being a veggie, but I appreciate food and it always annoys me when I see people treated badly.

Hi Usky. Yes I enjoy them. Have you ever had small ones in spikey white shells? Had them in the South of France once with garlic mayo, said they were sea snails, not the same as the big chunky garden type with hot garlic butter! Pro I've had whelks... they've got spikey white shells and live in the sea. I wonder if they're the same? I seem to remember them being served with hot butter and black pepper.
I don't seem to have posted much recently... not really sure why that is. I'm doing alright though thanks. How about you?

Hi Usky. No, had whelks, bit too big, chewy and indigestible for me, black pepper with maybe vinegar I've had but not hot butter - that sounds worth a try if I come across it, in spite of the too-big-to-bite-swallow-whole problem I have with them No, these were small, same colour as whelks though, is that something to do with being in the sea? I go that colour if I stay in the bath too long, maybe that's why snails are a sort of muddy colour :}}
I'm ok. Been a sticky month or so but that should be coming to an end now. Trouble is it's starting to get into the seasonal meal-go-round and stopover visits so won't get properly settled again until 2008, and I'm not too hot on patience and need to feel settled, so I'm ok, but not jumping around excited at the moment. You jumping there Usky? Bit cold though ain't it? Maybe I should start jumping around! Take it steady Usk, all the best, Chas.X.

Partnership with the author of the comment I made a remark to, or with the author of the picture which, if the shell in the water were not spilling its pearls, the lace of the collector would not have brokem its heart's links. Poetic, eh?

Water and Air
The night storm brushed the burgundy of plums unpicked
Their ripened life was on the fluffy, snow-covered branches
Now burgundy is on the path, prepared is the slippy sleek
to roll and tumble dashful, straightforward fances
A seashell, where storms have now passed,
has spilled its pearls beneath the lucid water
The eyes averted to the common food and lust
see only pebbles for the common trades, trades sober
The night winds strong blew off the whole air,
as if the partner of the darkest style,
as if a sparkle in accommodations fair,
as if a prisoner which gives its light to richness fine
The water’s calm and lets the lovely pearl store
to take the seashore bed with haughty self-esteem,
as if the premises of lightness and adornment
are occupied by seashell’s valued partner things
